The Boreal Trio is pleased to announce The Russian Project, a programming initiative debuting in the 2016-17 concert seaon. The project showcases the trio's virtuosity as they perform works by Stravinsky, Shostakovich and Prokofiev in exclusive arrangements by clarinetist and composer Uriel Vanchestein.

Through the Russian Project, the Boreal Trio's distinctive blend of clarinet, viola, and piano breathes new life into two classic ballet scores —Romeo & Juliet and Pulcinella— and two piano masterworks by Shostakovich and Prokofiev, articulating this music in an intimate setting and bringing new dimensions to the chamber-music repertoire.

"Centered around the music of Leonard Bernstein, this program features music by iconic American composers who were all friends and colleagues, played each other's music, and had lifelong associations with each other. Many of the works relate to one another and were written in honor of each other."

—Michael Brown
