Pianist Gabriela Martinez featured in Adam Schoenberg's "Olive Orchard"
Lisa-Marie Mazzucco

Championing the work of living American composers has long been an important part of pianist Gabriela Martinez’s career. Dan Visconti's 2014 composition Amplified Soul is the title selection on her debut solo CD, a Delos release that also includes White Lies for Lomax (2007) by Mason Bates. Now Martinez is giving voice to the piano music of 39-year-old American composer Adam Schoenberg. His Picture Etudes from 2013 were inspired by four paintings in Kansas City's Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art: “Three Pierrots” by Albert Bloch, “Miro’s World” by Joan Miró, “Olive Orchard” by Vincent Van Gogh, and “Kandinsky” by Wassily Kandinsky. Martinez's performance of “Olive Orchard” was recently captured in a YouTube video produced by BluePrint Media.
