Gabriela Martinez to debut with San Diego Symphony at the brand-new Rady Shell in May 2022

In her first-ever appearance with the esteemed San Diego Symphony, Venezuelan-born pianist Gabriela Martinez will bring her virtuosic talent to the symphony's new home—the state-of-the-art Rady Shell—on May 6 and 7, 2022.

Performing the iconic Grieg Piano Concerto, Gabriela will be featured in an eclectic program that also includes Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov's famous Scheherazade, and a contemporary work by New Zealand composer Salina Fisher titled Tupaia.

Conducted by Ruth Reinhardt, this innovative program is sure to satisfy traditional and contemporary classical music fans alike.

Martinez presented the Grieg concerto with the Hartford Symphony Orchestra last December to great acclaim. The Hartford Courant said of that performance: "Watching her play is like watching a cool, confident long-distance runner...Martinez’s graceful yet firm playing evokes not just high classical skills but centuries of popular music involving the piano."

The all-new Rady Shell, a visually and acoustically stunning indoor/outdoor stage, makes for prime viewing of Gabriela's brilliance at the piano. The early May performances with the San Diego Symphony mark a long-awaited debut by one of the top names in classical piano.
