Violinist Tessa Lark has been nominated for a 2020 GRAMMY® Award in the Best Classical Instrumental Solo category. The nomination, which also goes to Albany Symphony Orchestra Music Director David Alan Miller, recognizes their recording of Michael Torke’s Sky: Concerto for Violin, one of four works that the Albany Symphony included in an Albany Records release entitled Michael Torke: SKY. The 24-minute violin concerto, written expressly for Lark and inspired by her talents in bluegrass and Appalachian-style fiddling, was commissioned by a consortium of eleven orchestras; Lark and the Albany Symphony premiered and recorded the piece under Miller’s direction in January 2019.
